DARRYL YOUNG

Darryl Young is the Executive Director of the Merck Family Fund.  Merck Family Fund is dedicated to restoring and protecting the natural environment and ensure a healthy planet for generations to come and strengthening the social fabric and the physical landscape of the urban community.

 

Prior to Merck, Darryl served as Director of the Summit Foundation’s Sustainable Cities Program. The Sustainable Cities Program focuses on connecting sustainability and climate leaders to tools, networks, frameworks and knowledge resources to identify and scale solutions within the context of today’s highly complex urban challenges. 

Darryl was Director of the California Department of Conservation. Previous positions also include Acting Director with the California Governor’s Office of Planning and Research; Board Member of California Board of Forestry; Chief Consultant to the California Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee; National Media Director for The Sierra Club; and Legislative Assistant in the California State Assembly. He is a trustee of the TransitCenter Foundation, on the steering committee of the Climate and Energy Funders, the board chair of Main Street America, and a board member of the Reloop Platform and has previously served on numerous boards including the Funders Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities, the Story of Stuff Project, and the National Recycling Coalition. He attended the University of California, Davis and California State University, Sacramento.

In his travels to hundreds of cities around the world, Darryl has enjoyed photographing his experiences and sharing them through social media.
