People for Community Recovery (PCR)–whose founder, Hazel Johnson, is widely considered the mother of the environmental justice movement–is housed in the Altgeld Gardens public-housing development. PCR is co-leading the Clean Jobs Coalition Building Decarbonization Working Group with a focus on equity and inclusion for environmental justice, housing, and organizations that are BIPOC led and are working in limited-wealth communities. PCR is working to create new and stronger partnerships with community action agencies, community-based organizations, environmental justice and housing organizations, and other community stakeholders. It is increasing the capacity of these groups to engage in critical policy discussions regarding the implementation of affordable housing and energy protections.
